To minimise gum visibility, our experienced Cosmetic Nurse injects a muscle relaxant into the muscle surrounding the upper lip. This temporary relaxation prevents excessive movement and thickening and minimises gum exposure. This results in a balanced, natural smile and boosts your confidence, allowing you to smile without hesitation.
Avoid vigorous physical activity or any large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising. Ibuprofen, Aspirin and Vitamin E should not be taken one week before the treatment. After booking and confirming your treatment, please make sure to complete the requested forms. On the day of your treatment, arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Please be on time, or even a bit early, if you want to really impress us.
Before starting your treatment, you will need a consultation with your Cosmetic Nurse who will then conduct an online consultation with the Prescribing Practitioner. From the consultation, an assessment of your treatment plan and prescription will be completed. With minimal discomfort, this treatment can be as quick as 5 to 15 minutes.
No downtime for recovery is required for Gummy Smile treatments, allowing you to return to work or normal activity immediately.
It is important to not touch the area around the lips for at least 6 hours after the gummy smile treatment and that you avoid massaging or applying pressure to the area that has been treated for a few days following treatments.
While you are likely to experience minimal or no side effects following your treatments, the potential side effects may include redness or slight swelling to the injection site, pain, firmness, lumps and bumps, bruising, itching and discolouration. One side effect of this treatment is the loss of some function of the upper lip and difficulties with using a straw, sipping tea or whistling. This problem is usually temporary and well-tolerated by most who have the treatment.
In most cases, these side effects are temporary and will resolve within a week. The length of time Gummy Smile treatments last far varies from person to person, however, these effects usually last for around 3-4 months.
