Fat dissolving injections are medicines and are often composed of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance produced by our liver. Its role in the body is exactly what we are achieving with the treatment, to dissolve fat. Fat dissolving injections work by breaking down the membrane of fat cells, which then get absorbed by the body and progressively eliminated by the kidneys. It is hard for fat cells to be replaced, so the number of fat cells decreases permanently.

A series of injections are then made into the targeted area, which may become warm and red, and you may also experience a tingling sensation. Avoid vigorous physical activity or any large intakes of alcohol for 24 hours as this increases the risk of bruising. Immediately after the treatment, you may experience swelling, bruising, itching, pain, sensitivity to pressure and warmth at the injection site. Avoid scratching or picking around the injection site and keep the area dry for at least 4 hours. This is normal and generally disappears within 1-2 weeks. You can continue your usual daily activities immediately. Do not drink alcohol or perform strenuous exercise as this may result in additional bruising. Avoid exposure to intense heat, which can affect the treated areas.
