Teeth Grinding / Bruxism

Teeth grinding usually occurs if you have a strong and bulky jaw muscle. It can leave you with pain in your jaw as well as cause grinding down of your teeth over time.* This means expensive dentist bills!

We can help with teeth grinding by placing a series of small injections into your jaw muscle (called the masseter), which causes it to become less powerful and hopefully improve these issues.*

This can also improve the contours of your face, because a bulky jaw muscle can give rise to a square face. Treating the jaw muscle can reduce its size and give a sleeker, more attractive contour to your face.*

What is Bruxism?

Bruxism is the involuntary and excessive teeth grinding or jaw clenching. It is the result of an overactive masseter muscle – the facial muscle which attaches the lower jawbone and cheekbone. Teeth grinding mostly occurs while the patient is sleeping, but in some cases can happen throughout the day.

Bruxism is often triggered by stress and apart from jaw pain and wearing down of teeth, can lead to headaches, tooth sensitivity, difficulty chewing, change in face and jaw contour.

How can muscle relaxing compound help with Bruxism?

Muscle relaxants are injected into the masseter muscle to reduce the strength and activity of the muscle. Weakening of the masseter muscle also causes it to shrink over a period of time – this helps in reducing the squareness of the jaw and give the face a better contour.

A relaxed muscle helps in reducing clenching of teeth, thus preventing the wearing down of teeth and other associated damage. The treatment results last for about 3 months. However, the results vary from person to person and depend on a few factors. After your treatment we will book you in for a complimentary 2 week follow up appointment. This appointment is to assess your progress.

The injections are delivered using a very fine needle, but you will probably feel a small sting. We use ice to help numb the area before delivering the injections.

After your treatment we will book you in for a complimentary 2 week follow up appointment. This appointment is to assess your progress. We do not treat patients by counting units of product. You tell us what you want treated and we will work off a set price.
